Frustrated Loyalty

Frustrated Loyalty
Part One
By Seth Eaves

Earth and Humanity have come a long way in a short amount of time. In the twenty-second century, the Earth’s various governments put their differences aside, forming into two factions: The United Earth Government stationed in Washington D.C. and the People’s Asian Republic which covered most of the older Eurasia locations.

By the twenty-third century, humanity managed to travel further into the stars with the creation of faster than light drives, or F.T.L. for short. Once the People’s Asian Republic folded into the United Earth Government, a new era of education and exploration began, leading to the discovery of something many felt all along: We are not alone.

Fierce battles were waged across the interstellar highways until finally, differences were resolved and a new partnership was forged from the ashes of an old hatred, a partnership that led to Earth’s induction into the Federation of Organized Planets, a democratic system of planets.

Reactions to humanity were different among the assembled planets and their dignitaries. Some welcomed humans a breath of fresh air in the Federation and valued the knowledge and technology we had to share. Others viewed humans as disgusting, incompetent morons not worthy of tongue cleaning their boots. Some even wished to see human dignitaries taken out of the picture in an attempt to force humanity into withdrawing from the Federation. The main line of human defense were the Marine’s Special Agents.

The Special Agents were born during the Contact Wars as a desperate attempt to win a war humanity was losing. In the end, they proved to be what we needed to turn the tides of war. By the time humanity joined the Federation, many other races had already been integrated into the Special Agents Force.

Feared by criminals and respected by their peers, Special Agents were the best of the best, the most elite fighting force in the galaxy. Trained extensively in Krav Maga and equipped with the most advanced equipment in the universe, Special Agents were brutally efficient. To go along with their power, they were trained to essentially be ghosts, be able to blend in with crowds as well as the shadows.

Special Agents usually went into the field alone unless a job is large enough to require more then one. Each Agent was monitored and assisted remotely by four individuals: a transporter, firearms specialist, technical support and a handler, each one of them experts in their fields.

To top off the Agents already impressive work order, they are granted the rare fifth freedom: the freedom to assassinate, spy on, interrogate, blackmail, kidnap and torture anyone they deem necessary in order to uphold peace and order.

For years now, the Agents had been on the hunt for the elusive leader of a fanatical terroristic faction calling themselves the Korhal Liberation Front who have been hell bent on destroying the Federation and reorganizing it in their own sick twisted fashion. For a brief moment there, the Agency was all but knocking on the leader’s front door then, just as it seemed the Agents had him, the Front staged a daring raid of the Agency H.Q. and all active Agents were called back from the field to protect it.

Ever since then, the Front has run unchecked and Agents have been relegated to protection and clean up duties. Many Agents have become increasingly frustrated with this change of tactics, none more so than Sam Owens....
Stay tuned as this is only the beginning...now you know they WHY...or do you?
